Map of Maryland
Located along the Chesapeake Bay watershed where the crabs are blue, the bridge is long and folks are very nice.
THE CHESAPEAKE BAY BLUE CRAB
Of course, we are referring to the famous Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab, a symbol of the Chesapeake Bay
fishery and eateries along the waterways of the Chesapeake Bay. Eaten steamed and picked at the table,
prepared in cakes, stews, salads, casseroles (Mornay sauce), dips, fondues, quiches, Imperial, and the
always popular soft shell crab sauteed or fried. Maryland good food at it's best.
Crabbing is also a popular past time for folks with access to a boat or pier, a line baited with chicken parts (very popular) a net on a long pole, a bushel basket and a lot of patience.
Other water sports include boating of every type imaginable from the ever popular sail boating,
tour boating, speed boating, just about any type of boat will work on the bay on a calm day. Be
careful of windy days because the bay can develop waves of up to 8 feet or more. Not what you'd
want to see in a row boat.
THE CHESAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE
The William Preston Lane, Jr. Memorial Bridge is a sight to see. Linking the Eastern Shore of the
Chesapeake Bay with the Western Shore, the bridge is officially Route 50/301 East-West. Carrying
over 50,000 cars a day, the bridge is the life blood of the Eastern Shore where many families life, but
are employed on the Western Shore in Annapolis, Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and points throughout
Anne Arundel and Baltimore County. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge is also the best route for weekend
or week long vacationers using the bridge to reach that lovely Atlantic Ocean beach in Ocean City,
Maryland.
IT'S A FABULOUS BRIDGE
Opened in 1952, the bridge was a welcomed alternative to the ferries that carried traffic across the
Chesapeake Bay prior to the bridge opening. At 4.3 miles, shore to shore, this is a very significant
bridge and a vital artery for traffic, commercial and recreational, in Maryland.
