THE CHESAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE
William Preston Lane, Jr., Memorial Bridge
Connecting main land Maryland to the Maryland Eastern Shore. 4.3 miles of span from Anne Arundel County at Annapolis on the main land to Queen Anne's County at Queenstown on the Eastern Shore on Kent Island. Opened to the public in 1952, the bridge has grown from a two lane span to 2 spans on the east bound span and three lanes on the west bound span. The second span was added in 1973. Prior to the opening of the Bay Bridge, cross bay traffic was by ferry boat.

Local METRO rail for travel in Maryland to and from Washington, D.C. is aided
by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority management
